The Texas CUP Evaluation Process
What the Evaluation Actually Is
A Compassionate Use Program evaluation is a clinical visit with a CURT-registered Texas physician. The physician reviews your records, confirms your qualifying diagnosis on the merits, and decides whether to enter you in the Texas Compassionate Use Registry. It is not a rubber stamp and it is not a sales call.
Before the Visit
Pre-Intake Triage
Before scheduling, our intake team checks three things: Texas residency, the presence of a documented qualifying diagnosis, and your access to the records that confirm it. If any of these are missing, we say so before you pay.
Records You Will Be Asked For
Documentation requirements vary by condition. The records most commonly requested:
- Clinical notes from the diagnosing specialist
- Imaging, pathology, or test results that establish the diagnosis
- A current medication list
- Prior treatment history relevant to the diagnosis
During the Visit
How the Visit Runs
The evaluation is conducted via secure video. The physician reviews the submitted records on screen, asks targeted clinical questions, and discusses the place of low-THC therapy in your overall care.
What the Physician Is Assessing
The physician is making an independent clinical judgement on whether the diagnosis meets the Texas CUP criteria and whether low-THC therapy is reasonable for your case. This is documented in your chart.
After the Visit
Registry Entry
If the physician certifies you, they enter the certification directly into the Texas Compassionate Use Registry maintained by Texas DPS. The registry is what the dispensary checks at fulfilment.
What You Receive
You receive a written summary of the visit. There is no separate physical card to carry — registry entry is the legal artifact.
What If You Are Not Certified
If the physician declines to certify, you receive an explanation of the clinical reasoning and, where applicable, what additional documentation might change the outcome.
Renewal
Texas requires periodic recertification. We will contact you ahead of the window so the registry entry does not lapse.
