TCC TEXAS CANNABIS CENTERS

Terminal Illness

Added to TX CUP: 2021

Diagnosis Context

The Texas Compassionate Use Program recognizes a terminal-illness category. The statutory definition turns on prognosis as documented by the treating physician. Eligibility is therefore tied to the underlying diagnosis and the documented prognosis, not the diagnosis alone.

CUP Eligibility

Terminal illness, as defined under the Texas Compassionate Use Program, is on the current qualifying conditions list.

Evidence Base for Low-THC Therapy

In end-of-life and palliative-care settings, cannabinoid discussion most often addresses pain, nausea, appetite, sleep, and anxiety. Texas’s CUP authorizes only low-THC products under a statutory cap. The certifying physician will discuss what the literature supports in the context of the broader palliative-care plan.

What a CURT Physician Will Look For

Expedited Intake

Terminal-illness intake is treated as time-sensitive. The intake team will prioritize records review and visit scheduling, and will coordinate directly with the patient’s care team where authorized.

Care Coordination

A CUP certification is one element of a broader palliative-care plan. The certifying physician will document the certification and is available for direct communication with the treating team if you authorize it.

Step-by-Step Booking

  1. Send an intake message describing the diagnosis, the prognosis, and the symptom focus
  2. Confirm Texas residency and request expedited scheduling
  3. Submit records through the secure upload link or authorize records retrieval
  4. Attend the telehealth visit; family members or caregivers are welcome
  5. If certified, the physician enters the patient in the Texas Compassionate Use Registry
