TCC TEXAS CANNABIS CENTERS

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Added to TX CUP: 2021

Diagnosis Context

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a trauma- and stressor-related diagnosis defined in the DSM-5-TR. It is identified by a constellation of intrusion, avoidance, mood-and-cognition, and arousal symptoms that follow exposure to a qualifying traumatic event.

Texas has a large veteran population and a large first-responder population. Both communities present to CUP intake frequently. The diagnostic criteria are identical across populations; the records that establish the diagnosis often differ.

CUP Eligibility

PTSD is on the Texas Compassionate Use Program’s current list of qualifying diagnoses.

Evidence Base for Low-THC Therapy

Texas’s CUP permits only low-THC products under a cap defined in the Health and Safety Code. The published clinical evidence base for cannabinoid therapy in PTSD is mixed; the physician will discuss what the literature supports and what it does not, in the context of your case.
