Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Added to TX CUP: 2021
Diagnosis Context
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic immune-mediated disease of the central nervous system. The diagnosis is established by a neurologist using the current McDonald criteria, supported by MRI and clinical course.
CUP Eligibility
Multiple Sclerosis is on the Texas Compassionate Use Program’s current list of qualifying diagnoses.
Evidence Base for Low-THC Therapy
In MS care, the cannabinoid literature has focused most on spasticity, neuropathic pain, sleep disruption, and bladder symptoms. Texas’s CUP authorizes only low-THC products under a statutory cap. The certifying physician will discuss what the evidence supports for your symptom profile in the context of your current disease-modifying therapy.
