TCC TEXAS CANNABIS CENTERS

Cancer

Added to TX CUP: 2019

Diagnosis Context

Cancer is a heterogeneous group of diseases sharing a feature of dysregulated cell growth. The CUP-relevant question is not whether the diagnosis is cancer in the abstract but which cancer, at which stage, with which active treatment plan, and which symptoms are driving the request.

CUP Eligibility

The Texas Compassionate Use Program lists cancer among qualifying diagnoses.

Evidence Base for Low-THC Therapy

In oncology care, the published cannabinoid literature most often addresses chemotherapy-related nausea, appetite and weight, sleep, and pain. The Texas CUP authorizes only low-THC products under a statutory cap. The certifying physician will discuss what the evidence supports for your specific symptom picture, not for cancer in the abstract.

What a CURT Physician Will Look For

Care Coordination With Your Oncologist

A CUP certification is not a substitute for oncology care and should be coordinated with the treating team. The certifying physician documents the certification and is available for direct communication with your oncologist if you authorize it.
